Maids When You're Young

by Mother of Order

/

about

We have a sideline in slightly smutty folk songs as a contrast to the slightly 'dour' side of the Cotton Famine material. This is a traditional English folk song, first collected in 1910.

lyrics

An old man came courting me, hey ding-doorum down
An old man came courting me, me being young
An old man came courting me, all for his wife to be
Maids when you're young never wed an old man

For they've got no faloorum, faliddle aye oo-They've got no faloorum, faliddle aye ay
They've got no faloorum,
They've lost their ding-Maids when you're young never wed an old man

This old man comes to bed, hey ding-doorum down
This old man comes to bed, me being young
When this old man comes to bed, he lays like a lump of lead
Maids when you're young never wed an old man

For they've got no faloorum, faliddle aye oo-They've got no faloorum, faliddle aye ay
They've got no faloorum,
They've lost their ding-Maids when you're young never wed an old man

This old man goes to sleep, hey ding-doorum down
This old man goes to sleep, me being young
When this old man goes to sleep, out of bed Into the arms of a handsome young man.

For he's got faloorum, faliddle aye oo-He's got faloorum, faliddle aye ay
He's got faloorum,
And a ding- Maids when you're young never wed an old man

Oh I wish this old man would die, hey ding-doorum down
I wish this old man would die, me being young
I wish this old man would die, I'd make the money fly
Maids for your sakes never wed an old man

For they've got no faloorum, faliddle aye oo-They've got no faloorum, faliddle aye ay
They've got no faloorum,
They've lost their ding-Maids when you're young never wed an old man

Oh a young man is my delight, hey ding-doorum down
A young man is my delight, me being young
A young man is my delight, he'll xxxx you day and night
Maids for your sakes never wed an old man
